The procession with the statue of Santa Marija is the culmination of the whole week of festivities in the name of the Assumption. As the sublime statue is carried on shoulders around the snaking and winding streets for all to see in a village dressed in full splendour, one can admire the singular beauty of Mariano Gerada’s masterpiece. Its a work of art that is purposely made for processional movement where one can best absorb its etheareal, divine quality. The whole procession with pious accompaniment of the clergy, all the Confraternities, the bands, the fireworks and public outcry of devotional applause is just a pretext in contemplating the sublime beauty of this statue that for more than 200 years has been the core of this little village’s life and meaning.
